Stop asking survey respondents if the country is heading in the right/wrong direction – What does that mean? There are too many single-issue voters who believe the nation is sliding into the dumpster because we’re killing babies or bacon costs too much or colored people are getting too uppity. The question is too broad and subjective and the resulting number is there only to get headline attention.

I would not be surprised if one day, the real “Q” comes forward with a revelation that he (I can’t believe a woman would do this) just got tired of making up the most ridiculous nonsense because there are always enough people who will believe anything.

For example – (2/8/21) According to the latest dumb, ditzy conspiracy theory, Joe Biden has NOT been in the White House…he’s been secreted away in California…because…

Since the nation was turned into a corporation in 1870 (Who knew? By whom? Why? – Can’t say), Donald J. Trump on March 4th, will be sworn in as the nation’s 19th president of the “restored” nation (Ulysses Grant was the 18th president in 1870 and all the rest are illegitimate). Executions are expected to follow.

Somewhere there must be a huge pile of unused/discarded brains…maybe filling an abandoned mine shaft in West Virginia.

Lock Them All Up – Lawyers who knowingly aid and abet criminal activity must be disbarred and charged. Congressional representatives who helped the insurrectionists scout the capitol in advance should be charged and expelled.

Stop saying you’re fighting for me and start actually hitting somebody – There used to be Democrats that were called ‘firebrands.’ Wisconsin Senator Robert LaFollette was nicknamed ‘Fighting Bob.’ President Franklin Roosevelt gave a famous speech in 1936 where he identified a number of forces aligned against him and said, “I welcome their hatred.” There is nothing like this in the current timid Democrat leadership. I desperately want to be wrong but I believe they are going to lose.

History has shown we have a tendency to vote for the opposition in the mid-terms. Here’s where the party in power (allegedly, in this case) is always targeted for whatever is not going well and that urge for change is stoked by the opposition and the media.

Instead of reminding us just how bad the Trump administration was at doing just about everything (except giving more money to rich people) and how their miserable criminal response allowed Covid to kill a million Americans and wreck the economy, the Dems seem to be willing to accept the old saw that mid-terms are rough on incumbents. Until just days before November 8, there was no passion, no defense and no offense…just mild pro-forma pronouncements that give little indication that this election could set the stage for the end of our democracy as we know it. I wish I knew who was responsible for this game plan.

I can’t see the Dems holding the House and new Speaker McCarthy will ensure that the best possible outcome will be legislative gridlock and the worst will be multiple ugly inquisitions and calls for impeachment. Even if Democrats hold their majority in the Senate, Mitch will control the agenda like he does now.

I wish this great nation would realize what this election is about, turn out in record numbers, restore common sense to our government and take very seriously the threats of so many candidates who literally promise to throw out election results they don’t like.

--Where is the Outrage?--

I am so tired of watching the slow-motion train wreck that is Democrat governance and campaigning. We have a major party promoting scores of candidates who have promised to undo elections if the results are not to their liking. If anyone paid attention in history class, the one thing that even those narrow, slanted agendas taught us, it was that America was a democracy. We heard Lincoln’s words, “Of the People, By the People and For the People.”

How many of the GOP supporters understand that when elections are hijacked, we are not a democracy anymore. Where is the outrage?

I blame Democrats for allowing Republicans to normalize all manner of despicable behaviors and for not highlighting the party’s rampant hypocrisy. Republicans have based their entire careers and election campaigns on demonizing Democrats and preventing them from accomplishing anything.

Today’s Post reports that Pride month has brought out Republican politicians and preachers from their beloved base who are openly advocating the execution of gay people. Can we find ONE chicken-shit Democrat who will confront Ted Cruz or Josh Hawley or the two whack-job Confederate governors who want to be president and ask them if they support that initiative?

YES, Black Lives protests did damage. YES, it was a lefty who shot Steve Scalise. YES, Democrat-run cities have crime problems…but don’t anyone suggest for a minute that intimidation and anonymous death threats come equally from both sides.

· People who believe gay people don’t deserve equal rights or should be executed vote Republican.
· People who deny the Holocaust happened and blame Jews for every problem we’ve faced for the last 1000 years vote Republican.
· People who want to ban books from public libraries vote Republican.
· White supremacists vote Republican.
· People who harass patients and threaten workers at women’s health care clinics vote Republican.
· People who threaten poll workers and school administrators vote Republican.
· People who believe we are in (or should be in) a civil war vote Republican.
· People who attacked Capitol police, caused millions in property damage, pooped on the floors and walls, and called for the hanging of the vice president and speaker of the House absolutely voted Republican.

Woke up today to hear Trump’s phone call to GA Sec’y State, asking him to “find 11,780 votes”…just like the mob boss he thinks he is…and everyone is sooo polite and deferential. When Trump says what they’re doing is illegal, Raffensperger should have said, “So, arrest me (you effing moron).” When Trump said, “I hear that…they say that…word is that…rumors are…”, no one says, “We don’t act on hearsay, you dolt. Just like all your failed court challenges, we need real EVIDENCE…like this phone call of yours is now evidence to charge YOU with conspiracy to commit voter fraud…you dumb-shit. Now you can add that to the list of crimes you need to pardon yourself for.”

Today, the press is still abuzz over the FBI ‘raid’ on his Mar-A-Lago residence. Fox News, the Republican ‘Pravda’ and other right-wing media are all fired up and that has prompted any wackaloon with a device to post honest, serious calls for civil war. This should alarm everyone who believes in this nation and its founding principles.

It is WAY past time to stop being so GD nice. Confront Trump. Draw him out. MAKE him respond to serious policy questions. If he thinks he should be president again, force him to act presidential. He does not know how. Any attempt at serious responses will only show what a dumb-ass he has always been.

Just like he did in 2016 when he was shocked to actually win, Trump again set the stage with his “If I lose, the election was rigged” gambit…and no Democrat called him out on it. Now his antics have metastasized to poison an entire party and the nation’s election system.

Here we are, days away from the elections, and Democrats are still playing nice. The January 6 Committee has finally decided they should subpoena the guy who was the cause of the insurrection. No one should hold their breath expecting that testimony. The Committee will be disbanded by the new Republican House majority before ‘America’s Mussolini’ ever gets the chance to plead the Fifth.

A few weeks ago, George Conway claimed that Trump was closer to an orange jump suit than he has ever been before. I’ll believe it when I see it.

But wait!

I’m sure the shameless scum bucket and his crack legal team will have one last emergency defense to keep his ass out of the slammer.

At this point in time, even conservative legal minds admit he broke the law by taking, keeping and refusing to return secret documents to the government. The only thing that’s preventing our timid Justice Department from charging Trump seems to be this lame worry that the nation can’t handle the spectacle of a former president on trial. Please. Try me.

I can see it now. The evidence is overwhelming. More and more associates are going down. Convictions and other setbacks are piling up. The Boss is finally indicted. What will be his last-ditch defense…after all the delays, diversions, and other BS motions are exhausted?

You heard it here first. Psychology professionals called him a malignant narcissist long before he was elected. He has been a congenital liar forever. The last desperate defense will be…not guilty by reason of insanity. “He’s been delusional for years. Who but a crazy person would suggest we inject bleach into our veins? Who but a mad man would claim with a straight face and without evidence to be a stable genius? He clearly did not know what he was doing.”

Alas, as I imagined this silly scenario, my dear spouse reminded me that if he’s not convicted, he would be able to run for office again. The MAGA faithful will rally around their martyr (“He may be a lunatic but he’s OUR lunatic”) and the Democrats will find a way to lose to him.

Back to the drawing board.

2022 Midterm Election Thoughts – # 3

--“When they go low, we go hide”--

Silly, archaic me. I always thought that our elected officials depended on feedback from their constituents. I go back to a time when we wrote to them to express what we supported or opposed…and…shock and awe…they would write back. At least somebody did.

Those letters, signed in real ink (by real signature-generating machines) acknowledged your outreach. The times were more polite then. You can still send mail to their offices but they don’t write back anymore.

Below are two examples of this citizen’s attempt to reach Democrat Party candidates and organizations. They are response to money requests which have been constant for the past two years. Unlike those bygone times, not one of my communications has generated responses. I guess you’ll understand why after reading them.

Dear Democrats,

In 2020 I gave money to 15 Democrat Senate candidates but not to any of these ossified “committees” who believe that the hundreds of millions of dollars they raised was the reason they barely defeated the worst president in history and a radical GOP that would throw out Ronald Reagan if he were still around.

You need to realize that too many of the 74 million votes cast for that moron were not for Trump but were AGAINST the Democrats. You have allowed Republicans to paint your party as the biggest threat to this country…just like you allowed Republicans to make voter suppression an accepted American value…just like you allowed Trump to solidify the ‘Big Lie’ about voter fraud. Why didn’t ANY of you get in his face when he first made that claim and say, “That’s a damn lie. Prove it or stop saying it.” Now, every red state continues to erode our democracy based on nonsense…and you all sit around like this is all politics as usual. It is not.

You need to modify Michele Obama’s dictum about “When they go low, we go high.” You don’t have to be as awful as Republicans but you do need to DEFEND YOURSELF. Stop being so damn nice because you are going to lose your slim majorities in 2022.

I was once a Republican but will never vote for one again since they are evil. I am not a Democrat since your party is just dopey. I am an Independent…the unaffiliated who outnumber Democrats and whose votes you need in every election.

However, I am tired of being inundated by Democrat fundraising mail…by pleas from the DNC, the DSCC, the DCCC, the DGA and now the DLCC. I am tired of getting letters from Vote Blue, the Turnout Project and other Democrat money machines. I am tired of getting mail from states and candidates I never supported because you spread my address around. And I am really tired of the bogus “surveys” that invite me to prioritize a pre-selected list of issues as if anyone would actually consider them…even if a check were enclosed.

You don’t need more money. You need a message that reaches middle America…and the balls to say it loud. You need to remind our citizens with short memories just how bad the last four years have been…that they need a government that works and how hard it is trying to make government work when Republicans oppose everything and have no ideas of their own.

So, do yourself a favor. Until I see some gumption and push-back on the GOP and Trump and Fox News, I will not send any money. You guys are drunk on money and given the amount of mail I get, all you seem to use it for is to raise more money. Instead, you will get more letters like this.

9/19/22 – I broke down and sent a check to Rep. Val Demings who is challenging Marco Rubio for the Florida Senate seat. I had to add a short note.

PLEASE…

The next time I see Ms. Demings on TV and she’s asked about Trump and the classified documents he held, please do NOT begin by saying that the problem is that Mar-a-Lago is not a secure place for such material.

Good Grief!

Just because the media has helped Trump mis-direct the issue, the candidate does not have to go along. The main issue is that Trump broke federal law. He is not the president. He can’t de-classify anything. The documents never belonged to him. He should never have taken them. He should have given them back when asked later. He refused. He should be indicted NOW…just like Marco Rubio and every other Republican would be demanding be done to former president Obama if he did the very same thing.
